Manahan Park Rules & Regulations

The Hillsborough Board of Selectmen wishes to welcome you to Manahan Park. In order to provide a safe environment and an enjoyable experience for all who visit, the following rules and regulations are in place and must be followed:

  • All instructions given by lifeguards shall be obeyed by everyone – No exceptions. Individuals who do not follow lifeguard instructions will be asked to leave and if need be, will be removed from the premises;
  • Lifeguards will not assume parental responsibilities for children left unattended;
  • Inflatable floats of any kind, noodles, boogie boards are not permitted in the swim area unless they are part of Town sponsored swimming classes;
  • Lifejackets which are U.S. Coastguard approved and which are properly fitted may be worn. The waterfront staff will assist you with any questions you may have with regard to this;
  • For safety reasons diving and/or cannonballs are NOT permitted off the rocks – jumping off is acceptable;
  • DOCK BEHAVIOR: For safety purposes, the following are NOT permitted: Flips, Back Dives, Cartwheels, Pushing, Swimming Behind or Under the Dock;
  • The swim area will be closed for a minimum of 30 minutes upon the first occurrence of thunder being heard or lightening being seen. Any further thunder or lightening will dictate the length of the closing;
  • Motorboats/Canoes/Kayaks must be parked by the boat ramp or at the picnic area to the right of the beach. Boats must not be left unattended;
  • Use appropriate and respectful language within the park at all times;
  • Smoking is NOT permitted on the beach, at/in the pavilion or within the picnic area. Smoking is only allowed in the designated area next to the ramp by the lower parking lot;
  • Dogs are not permitted on the beach, at/in the pavilion or within the picnic area. Owners are responsible for picking up after their dogs while walking them in permitted areas;
  • Visitors are responsible to clean up after themselves. For your convenience, there are trash cans located throughout the park to dispose of your trash;
  • Children under 12 years of age must be accompanied on the beach by an adult;
  • The park is closed from 11 p.m. – 7 a.m. and there is no parking within the park between those hours;
  • Vehicles are not allowed on the beach or the fields;
  • Wood fires are NOT permitted;
  • No person shall damage, deface, or destroy any structure, natural feature, plant, tree, or piece of equipment within the park. Anyone found doing so will be asked to leave and may be charged with vandalism if warranted;
  • Soliciting is not allowed.
